Students in Art created their own designs for a cube. We learned about the street artist "Thank You X" and put all our cubes together in the lobby for a cool display!

During the first days of school, Art students had to work in small groups and get to know each other. One of their challenges was to create a sculpture out of 20 index cards in a short amount of time! This helped them to work together, create ideas and execute a design while managing their time. We had some great, imaginative results to this design challenge!
Art is a great way to work through our emotions and feelings. Right now, we are all starting to miss someone. There are people we cannot see right now and we miss them. In order to celebrate our relationships and friendships, students drew a portrait of someone they miss and someone they hope to see soon!
Beginning Art Studio students created signs of gratitude for helpers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Students mostly wanted to thank medical workers such as doctors, nurses and ambulance drivers. We are sending these images to local hospitals and volunteer EMT stations.
During this time of quarantine, art is a great way to help us all cope! Like many people around the world, Madison art students created rainbows and placed them in their windows to spread messages of hope!
Painting students practiced using salt to create textural backgrounds in watercolor. We then added a silhouette to our designs.
Students in Honors and AP Art practiced creating gestural drawings from live models. Students drew many sketches and then were tasked with turning the sketches into an interesting composition using the media of their choice.
Honors art students were working with colored pencil to create an interesting composition using apples and pears as still life items. Students thought of new and interesting ways to depict the still life items.
We partnered with the Memory Project to create portraits for underprivileged children. We created portraits for children in Nigeria. Each Honors/AP student had to create a full value pencil drawing and a painted portrait for each child. We also learned a little about the country of Nigeria and it's culture. Portraits are being sent to these children and we hope it will remind them of how special and unique each one is!
Students in beginning Art Studio are learning about the elements and principles of design. We focused on space and discussed positive and negative space. These cut paper designs incorporate a play on positive and negative space while also encouraging the student to create their own unique patters.
