MHS annual "Day of Service" is a wonderful day in which our school helps the community. This year art students worked at the local elementary school to create murals to brighten the school and help in one of their school year celebrations. A good time was had by all and the high school students impressed us all with their talent!

MHS Senior Kierran Matos received the Rizzo scholarship for her fine art achievements this year. Her work will be on display at The Rizzo Fine Art Gallery in Chatham until June 6th. Every year Nick and Brenda Rizzo honor seniors from local schools who plan to continue their artistic studies. Congratulations Kierran!
To celebrate the end of the school year the Art Club hosted a Bob Ross painting party. Students were given a canvas and we watched an episode of "Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting". We had fun trying to emulate his style by painting a landscape along with him. Yet, some artists love to break the mold and were inspired to paint their own thing as well! Isn't that what creativity is all about?
The 5th annual MHS Teen Art Gallery was held this week. The exhibit featured the work of MHS Advanced Art students. It was also the induction to our new chapter of The National Art Honor Society. There was great art, music, food and family and friends to make the night a very special event!
MHS Art Club students are trying to brighten up the halls at MHS. We are finished with the phone booth painting and next year we will add a sculptural element. We also completed a mural on the cabinet in Mrs. Gabel's room. Students worked really hard to get these projects done and are trying to brighten up their school!
Oh the places they will go! Four MHS graduating seniors will be attending Art & Design colleges in the Fall. They will be pursuing artistic endeavors and majoring in such things as fashion design and illustration. I am so proud of how hard they have all worked to be accepted into such prestigious schools. I know they will do wonderful things in the future. This year students have been accepted into art schools such as MICA, SCAD, Parsons, Tyler School of Art, MassArt and SAIC.
Painting & Drawing students looked at lists of endangered species and created "portraits" of some of the animals. We displayed our work in our school lobby when we celebrated Earth Fest!
Honors Advanced Art Studio created a fortune cookie still life. They used the shapes of the cookies to create an interesting observational still life with a strong light source. Next, we will open our cookies and create a conceptual piece based on the fortune inside.....stay tuned!
