For the past 6 years, MHS Art Students have been involved with The Memory Project. This organization sends us photos of underprivileged children in various parts of the world and our advanced art students create portraits of them. The Memory Project then travels to the children's home and delivers the hand made works of art. We love being a part of this project and my students get to practice portraiture, facial proportions, mixing skin tones, shading with pencil and paint as well as creating a gift for someone in another part of the world. It's an amazing experience for all involved. We have sent portraits to students in Cambodia, Madagascar, and even Syrian children living in a refugee camp in Jordan. This year, we learned about the beautiful nation of the Philippines and created portraits for children there. Madison students got to learn about the Philippines and we viewed a vidoe of the children joyfully receiving their portraits!

Madison second grade students used their imagination to create monsters of all shapes and sizes! Students at MHS then received a 2nd grader's monster drawing and were inspired to create a painting or sculpture of their own! This is the 4th year our MHS Monster Collaboration has taken place and once again both the 2nd graders and the high school students had so much fun! We love that the focus of this project is on imagination and inspiration!
INTO Yellow is an initiative to bring awareness to mental health and to promote optimism. To help bring this project to Madison, woodshop students cut out circles and then MHS Art Club members painted them with "Optimistic Yellow". Later, art club members painted flowers and wrote optimistic quotes on the circles. The rest of the circles were given to community groups to also paint flowers. These will be added to a pollination garden in downtown Madison, helping to spread the seeds of optimistic thinking!
Students in Drawing class created expressive portraits using conte crayon pencils on tinted canson paper.
Students in Art Studio, Drawing and Painting each created one part of a circle and decorated it in their own style. We placed all the squares together and created a mural of many circles. The mural represents all our different personalities coming together to create a community or artists! Stop by the lobby to check it out!
Painting students created a portrait of a critically threatened or endangered animal. The environmental science students are also studying these animals and will create a display with these beautiful works of art to celebrate earth day.
